3 Marigold Floral Arrangements to Decorate Your Dining Room for Day of the Dead

With the arrival of October, markets, florists and nurseries begin to fill with marigold flowers, one of the most representative of the Day of the Dead in Mexico. Its intense orange color and its distinctive aroma form part of a tradition that year after year makes its presence felt in homes.

Within this celebration, the marigold holds a special meaning, as it is related to the sun, life, and the memory of those who have died. According to Mexican tradition, its petals are also used to form paths that guide the souls to the offerings. Therefore, in addition to placing it on the altars, many families take advantage of its beauty to decorate entrances, patios, living rooms and dining rooms during this season.

If you like incorporating natural flowers into the decoration of your home, the marigold can become the protagonist of a dining room centerpiece. Here we share three floral arrangement ideas that you can adapt to your style and use during the Day of the Dead or the rest of autumn.

1. Autumn Wild Bouquet

To make it, use a transparent glass vase; this way you can appreciate the stems. Place several orange marigold flowers as a base and add dahlias in burgundy or dark purple tones to create contrast. You can also incorporate dog flowers in yellow or cream, which will add height and give the arrangement a more interesting silhouette.

The autumn touch can come with small decorative branches, green foliage, or ornamental pumpkins placed around the vase. Ensure that the taller flowers are at the back and the smaller ones occupy the front, especially if you will place the arrangement in the center of a table where several people will sit to chat.

2. Floral Sphere of Marigold and Cockscomb

This design is characterized by its rounded shape, with flowers packed tightly together. You can use a low ceramic base, a cylindrical vase, or a clay container that matches the rest of your dining room. Begin by distributing the marigold flowers around the base and then intersperse the cock’s comb to add texture. To give a little more light to the ensemble, incorporate small yellow roses or cream-toned flowers among the available spaces.

3. Modern Multicolor Bouquet

To achieve this effect full of color, combine marigold flowers with open roses in fuchsia and orange tones, Alstroemerias and yellow ranunculus. The green foliage will serve as a background that helps distinguish the different colors and prevent the arrangement from looking too uniform.

Instead of a glass vase, you can use a Talavera-style ceramic pitcher or a clay container, which will add an artisanal detail and complement the Mexican inspiration of the celebration. Arrange the flowers with the marigold as the main focal point and the other flowers around it to create contrast.
