The Long Island is an iconic cocktail based on four white spirits and finished with cola. Very easy to prepare, it should be enjoyed in moderation!
Long Island Iced Tea: a historic cocktail without… Iced Tea!
Though its origin remains somewhat unclear today, the Long Island Iced Tea was created on Long Island near New York in the 1920s. At that time, alcoholic beverages were prohibited in the United States by the American government (during Prohibition), so bar owners mixed bootleg liquor with cola to give the mixture the appearance of a simple iced tea. Hence its name Long Island Iced Tea, even though it contains nothing resembling iced tea at all!
Traditionally based on gin, tequila, vodka, white rum, triple sec, cane sugar syrup, lemon juice, and cola, this bold cocktail is most often served with a slice of lime and is enjoyed well-chilled with plenty of ice. To recreate it at home, we share our ultra-simple recipe to make at home (with moderation).
