Very indulgent muffins with a generous surprise inside for an irresistible snack

For an unforgettable afternoon break or even for an improvised dessert, here are muffins to make again and again! Between the delicate chocolate flavor, the ultra-soft texture, and the molten center of hazelnut spread, your taste buds will be won over from the very first bite. This recipe is foolproof if you follow all the steps correctly. We’ve included two versions: with frozen hazelnut spread balls to press directly into the muffin cups, or without freezing the spread if you want to save time (the result is perfect in both cases).

The trick for muffins that are truly soft is first to add yogurt to the batter, but especially to mix the wet ingredients and the dry ingredients separately before bringing them together. You can remake this recipe in a “natural” version by removing the cocoa powder from the ingredients (remember to add the difference in flour, i.e., 30 g more flour). We guarantee your taste buds won’t forget these muffins anytime soon!

The list of ingredients to have on hand to make 8 chocolate muffins with their hazelnut spread center

– 2 eggs
– 100 g melted butter
– 150 g yogurt
– 100 ml milk
– 250 g flour
– 30 g unsweetened cocoa powder
– 50 g sugar
– 1 sachet baking powder
– a pinch of salt
– 8 Tbsp hazelnut spread

Soft and fudgy muffins in just 5 very simple steps

1. Shape balls of hazelnut spread (about 1 Tbsp per ball) and place them on baking parchment. Freeze them to harden.

This step is optional; you can use the hazelnut spread at room temperature for the muffins’ surprise center.

2. Mix the wet ingredients in a bowl (eggs, melted butter, yogurt and milk). In another bowl, mix the dry powders (flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder and salt).

3. Pour the liquids into the dry ingredients, stirring until a smooth and homogeneous batter forms.

4. Fill muffin cups to about two-thirds full, then press a ball of hazelnut spread into the center of each muffin.

If you did not do the first step, fill the muffin cups halfway, place the hazelnut spread in the middle, and cover with the remaining batter to fill the cup about three-quarters full.

5. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes at 180°C. Let cool before serving.

Impossible to resist the surprise center of these chocolate muffins!

So, is your mouth watering just by reading the recipe card? We understand! And rest assured, the recipe is accessible to bakers of all levels. We promise you’ll wow both young and old food lovers with chocolate muffins and their molten hazelnut spread heart. A guilty pleasure to try without delay!
