The best savory invisible cake for an affordable and indulgent meal
If you haven’t yet tried invisible cakes, you should really give them a try! It’s a kind of savory cake but lighter because less flour is used in the recipe. They can be prepared in all sorts of ways, even in a sweet version for extra softness. For our recipe today, we slice zucchini into thin ribbons and cut pieces of ham, then add grated cheese. The cooking requires patience, but we guarantee it’s worth it!
The result is topped with a gratin and very tender inside. You can enjoy it hot or cold, on its own or with a green salad for example. It’s the perfect recipe for a light family dinner or to impress friends around a convivial meal.
Mistakes to avoid to succeed the recipe every time
You know it: zucchinis release water during cooking. To avoid soaking your batter, be sure to sweat the zucchinis beforehand. To do this, simply salt them lightly and place them in a colander to let the water drain naturally. Finally, you’ll just need to dry them thoroughly before incorporating them into the rest of the mixture.
For more regular strips, we highly recommend using a mandoline (being careful with your fingers). It’s a kitchen utensil that will really make your life easier in many recipes!
Don’t hesitate to start cooking at a lower temperature so the cake cooks well through the center before raising the heat to brown the cheese on top. And wait before unmolding your cake, or you’ll see it collapse! To be sure it holds its shape, chilling is mandatory.
