If you love onigiri, these triangular rice pockets from Japan, then you’ll adore our grilled stuffed version with tuna and melting cheese! Don’t worry, it’s really not that complicated to remake at home. To start, we prepare the sushi rice, then we create a mixture of tuna, cream cheese, and grated mozzarella for that gooey stretch. Next, we place the filling inside our onigiri, then brush it with sesame oil and soy sauce before grilling for a few minutes in a skillet. The result is melt-in-your-mouth and crispy at the same time, it’s simply irresistible!

To make this recipe, follow the steps below:
GRILLED ONIGIRI 🍙
For 4 onigiri
Ingredients :
– 3 cups of sushi rice
– 3 cups water
– 200 g canned tuna
– 150 g cream cheese
– 3 scallions
– 1 tablespoon mustard
– 1 teaspoon mirin
– 1/2 lime (juice + zest)
– 70 g grated mozzarella
– 15 g sesame seeds
– 15 g dried garlic
– 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
– Salt
– Sesame oil
– Soy sauce
For the spicy mayo :
– 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
– 1 tablespoon sriracha
– a splash of lime juice
Preparation :
1. Rinse the sushi rice several times until the water runs clear.
2. Cook the sushi rice with the water indicated in the quantities and a pinch of salt (follow the time indicated on the package). When the rice is cooked and still hot, add the rice vinegar. Mix and set aside.
3. Mix the tuna with the cream cheese, the chopped scallions, the mustard, the mirin, the lime juice and zest, and finally the grated mozzarella.
4. With wet hands, take a quantity of sushi rice and place the filling in the center. Shape into well-sealed balls.
5. Brush the onigiri with a mixture of sesame oil and soy sauce. Grill in a pan for a few minutes on each side.
6. In the meantime, mix the mayonnaise with the sriracha and a bit of lime juice.
7. Serve the onigiri with a little spicy mayo, sesame seeds, dried garlic and fresh cilantro!
