BRAIDED APPLE TART 🍎🥧
Serves 6
Ingredients :
– 1 shortcrust pastry
– 4 to 5 apples (Pink Lady or Golden Delicious)
– 250 g apple compote
– 3 tbsp apricot jam
– A few sliced almonds
– 1 egg yolk
Preparation :
1. Roll out the shortcrust pastry and cut evenly spaced strips all around the edge. Cross the strips over each other to create the braided effect (as seen in the video).
2. Line the bottom of the tart with the apple compote, then arrange the apples in a rosette on top.
3. Brush the braided lattice with the egg yolk and bake 35 to 45 minutes at 180°C until the pastry is nicely golden.
4. When it comes out of the oven, glaze the apples with the apricot jam for shine and sprinkle with sliced almonds.
Easy Tips to Make an Apple Tart Irresistible
Our tip for an unbeatable apple tart is to slice the apples very thinly and evenly for a perfect result. Use a mandoline if you have one (being careful not to cut yourself) or a sharp knife. To prevent browning, dip them in water with lemon juice. Regarding the variety to choose, we recommend firmer apples such as Golden, Pink Lady, or Granny Smith. Avoid floury apples that are not suitable for cooking.
As for apricot jam, not mandatory obviously but it’s truly THE secret technique for a beautiful, shiny and indulgent apple tart! You don’t need to use a lot; you can dilute it with a bit of hot water so you can spread it over the apples as they come out of the oven. If you like crispy tart edges, sprinkle them with a little brown sugar after brushing with the egg yolk; it will caramelize slightly and is really delicious.
You can flavor your dessert with a touch of vanilla or cinnamon if you enjoy comforting, warm aromas. Bon appétit!
